Why, Toyota?
November 10, 2007
As some of you have may already heard, Toyota recently released an ad for their Prius, a generally popular hybird car. In this ad, the narrator states, among many other things, “…in the future…gas stations will become nothing more than low-budget tourist stops. Like ghost towns … or Fresno.”
Quite random, dont you think? Now, I am pretty sure that everyone who lives in or around Fresno realizes it is not the greatest city in the world. We get it, its no LA, New York, or Las Vegas. But at the same time, I still think people are proud to be from or live here. If they weren’t, then why would anyone live here at all?
Now, I don’t wanna be that Fresno guy who says, “Now see here, whats the big idea? Us Fresno Republicans are gonna come at you with our torches and pitchforks and put an end to this matter.” I can take a joke, it is clever ad. But it just seems too random, like the ad people threw it in there for no reason. Toyota has since apologized and removed the Fresno reference from future usage of the ad.
I am pretty sure there are much worse places to live in the US than the Central Valley. Like Lucille Bluth once said, “I’d rather be dead in California than alive in Arizona.”
Take a look at the ad, tell me what you think. This all being said, I still love Toyota, they make a mean car.
