Best Stunt Scene Ever

January 23, 2008

Don’t let the words on the screen fool you, this is the best stunt scene of all time.

I don’ t know how I came across that on youtube, but I am really glad I did.

Represent!

January 16, 2008

I stumbled across this story on the Yahoo homepage.  Apparently this poor girl was booed cause she was representing the Patriots, who we all know have a perfect record this season.  Watch the video, see her get booed, but then notice the hometown of the final kid…

Yeeeeaaaahhh boy!  Too bad he’s representing the Raiders…ugh.

This story reminds me of my childhood:

MONTERREY, Mexico (AFP) - A 10-year-old Mexican boy glued his hand to his bed to avoid going back to school after the Christmas break, authorities said Monday.

“I thought if I was glued to the bed, they couldn’t make me go to school,” the boy, Diego, told AFP. “I didn’t want to go, the holidays were so much fun

“I remembered my mom had bought a very strong glue,” he said of the industrial strength shoe glue he used to stick his hand to the bed’s metal headboard, where he stayed stuck for two hours.

His mother Sandra Palacios was unable to free him and called paramedics and police to help. Diego watched cartoons while they worked to unglue him, eventually using a spray to dissolve the chemical adhesive.

“I don’t know why this happened. He is a very good boy,” said his mother.

Diego eventually made it school a few hours late.

Now I hate going back to school after Christmas break, but come on, this is just a bit extreme. Maybe there was a Xuxa marathon on, cause if so, I’d glue myself to my bed too.

I think 2007 has been one of the best years for movies in a long time, and as you may know, I love movies. I love the feeling of going to see a new movie in the theater, but I am beginning to really dislike the actual theater itself. Loud talkers, late shower-uppers, and a lot of John Q. Americans who have no clue what the movie they’re about to view is about. That being said, there were a handful of films that came out this year I truly wanted to see, but just never got around to it (American Gangster, 3:10 to Yuma, No Country For Old Men, and even Juno.)

Here are my favorite movies of 2007, that I actually saw:

1. Eastern Promises

Eastern Promises

I’m glad that David Cronenberg is establishing himself as a legit filmmaker/storyteller. I’ve been a fan of his for a while, going back to the days of classics like The Fly and The Dead Zone, but I was rather turned off from Spider. Then, a long comes A History of Violence, and Cronenberg is back! Eastern Promises reunites Cronenberg with Viggo Mortensen, and brings in the excellent Naomi Watts. The acting was superb, the direction was solid, the story was intriguing, and the film overall was exceptional. This is my pick as the best film of 2007 that I have seen.

2. Ratatouille

Ratatouille

Pixar is gold, and everybody knows it. Dreamworks can release 100 Shreks, and the best one still would not compare to Pixar’s worst film (which, btw, they haven’t made.) Pixar manages to capture heart and meaning in their films, which you just dont see from other CGI companies. Ratatouille was an absolute joy. I left the theater happy to be alive. Even after 2 more viewings, the movie gets better. Great story, wonderful effects, beautiful animation, and a lifelong Pixar fan make this my 2nd favorite film of 2007 that I have seen.

3. Hairspray

Hairspray

Movie musicals seem to be making a comeback, some are good, some aren’t. I’m not gay, and I’m not a closet musical fan. Musicals such as Little Shop of Horrors, Newsies, The Music Man, and The Sound of Music are amongst my favorite movies. At the same time, there are bad movie musicals (2005’s Phantom of the Opera was a trainwreck, and Sweeney Tood was atrotious.) This being said, Hairspray was awesome. I knew of the original 1988 John Water’s film, and I knew the broadway play was a huge success, but I had never listened to any of the soundtrack until this summer. The songs are so well written, and the movie made them stand out even more. It was loud, fast, and fun. I actually saw this film twice in theaters, and have viewed it about 3 times on DVD. Since my obsession seems pretty clear, this is my 3rd favorite film of 2007 that I have actually seen.

4. Across the Universe

Across the Universe

In the same vein of movie musicals, Across the Universe was an interesting film featuring the music of one of my favorite bands, The Beatles. The songs were done in a matter that made them stand alone with the film, and the visuals were quite breathtaking. I understand this movie is not for everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The soundtrack has also been in constant rotation in my cd player. Here’s my number 4 pick for my favorite film of 2007 that I have actually seen.

And….that about does it. Like I said, I missed a lot of good movies this year, but a good majority of the ones I was able to see were great. I hope 2008 keeps this tradition up, cause we really don’t need anymore of these.
