That’s how it’s done, Mr. Lambert.
Free speech…for some
May 12, 2009
The President has been mocked lately for his stance on gay marriage. He has been called names on television, radio, and the internet for his opposition to same-sex marriages. Recently, he was almost stripped of his title of President of the United States for his views on gay marriage, until…oh, that’s not Obama, that’s Miss California Carrie Prejean. She’s the one taking the hit for her stance on gay marriage, which just so happens to be identical to President Obama’s.
What Obama says:
“I’m a Christian. And so, although I try not to have my religious beliefs dominate or determine my political views on this issue, I do believe that tradition, and my religious beliefs say that marriage is something sanctified between a man and a woman.”
What Prejean said:
“…I do believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. But that’s how I was raised and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman.”
Apparently, you can be against gay marriage, be a liberal, and be given a free pass. Name me one conservative figure in the public sphere who opposes gay marriage, yet has been treated as kindly as Obama has? Free speech is for all. Not just those who lean left, or lean right, or disagree with what is socially acceptable. Maybe something to learn, Mr. Hilton.
